Oh Mr.President Sir.........One moment of your time please....

Get your head out of your butt...(Unless you like the smell) Heard thru the Grapevine that is the world of internet news that you were upset over the outcome of the Gay Marriage Ban for Idaho....The legislation failed to approve the ban....as it should have done! A freind tipped me off....I was glad for her...

You know what people...I am tired of this crap so I am going to rant...I may offend some of you....I am sorry in advance...I am entitled to my opinions just as you are...please respect that...

I can understand about 300 years ago (a rough estimation but you get the point) people didn't know what they know now....I can understand that in biblical times they had no clue either...Being gay scared the shit out of them...so now it is in the bible as a sinful thing...Yes...that is what I think...That which they didn't understand they made a law against...put it in the bible and guess what...people will followed it to the letter...

But we live (or I would really like to think-just let me have my little fantasy please) that we live in enlightened times...we now know that you are born gay...you are not made...you are the way you are...you cannot change genetics...oh I know that this is still debated about to this day...but I think that most of the studies I have read...you are born this way...

So that being the case...why all the stink about gay marriage bans??? If we live in a society that is supposedly equal rights under the constitution...this would fall into that category...they have every right...EVERY RIGHT...to the same equality that everyone else is entitled too....To descriminate against them based on thier sexuality is wrong...Oh yeah...it's in the bible that it's wrong...Ah....but we are supposed to have separation of church and state...that's Separation of Church and state people (and Mr. Bush sir .....thought I doubt you would read this little ol blog) So I am sorry people...While you have your beliefs in the bible...That's fine...we have a constitution that upholds equal rights for all people...Those that want gay marriage banned usually bring the bible into it...That's really the only thing they can bring in...At least in the conversations that I have had....People might not be religious...but you mention Gay Marriage and suddenly....it's all about what's in the bible..."Why it's just wrong!!!!" Gay people didn't ask to be born gay....just as I didn't ask to be born a woman...WE JUST WERE!...that all there is to it....

Now don't get me wrong...I am not in any way...shape or form....putting down organized religion....In fact...I myself have witness first hand how it truly wants to try to help people.....but...the fact remains....I have my own ideals about what I think of the bible, God and Jesus...It's a good learning tool but I have to take into consideration the mentality of the people at the time it was written and the time the church was formed....We've come along way since then...I want to think that...please let me and don't hate me for it...you won't ever hear me put you down cause your Lutheren, Catholic, or whatnot...All I am merely trying to say is this...While I respect people's beliefs....I do think that the Church needs to stay out of politics and the constitution is for everyone....Gays should be allowed to marry and enjoy the same benefits that we heteralsexuals have...nothing more and nothing less...

Now the reason for my rant...I have two gay female freinds...they are having a harder than heck time making sure that all is taken care of in the event of one or the other's death...why???? They have a son together...(those that want too...don't go there) With all the red tape they are trying to cut thru...and they will cut thru it...it's been hard on thier nerves...but they remain optomistic...they were told by an attorny that maybe they should consider letting the child be put up for adoption into a nice heteral sexual family...Now please understand...The son is the one freind's natural child by artifical insemination...it's getting legal guardianship for the other...Florida bans gay adoption...so they have to go about this in a round about way and they have come across every dead end imaginable...The child is now 5....well adjusted and loved....He has 2 mommies....He loves them both...This is why I am upset...for the umpteeth time...the paperwork came back rejected by the courts...it amounted to adoption...and that was a no go...UGH....Round 745 coming up....Right now the best they can hope for is in the event of the natural Mother's death before the child turns 18...Her partner can try to petition the courts but she better not mention that she's gay....AND that she was the Mother's significant other...Then the child is made a ward of the state...and adopted by the "right" Family...That's what they were told...This wasn't what they wanted...they wanted adoption...they are not ashamed of who or what they are and they really shouldn't be...

Like I said...this is my honest opinion...it will differ from yours...and you know what????? that's truly okay.....You're entitled to your opinion just as I am.....after all........It's a free country.......

Isn't it?????

On the Separation of Church and State issue....

The church I go to has an american flag near the altar...and all the money has "In God We Trust" on it.

My question is....who did it first? Did the church bring the american flag into the church or did the government put the God line on the money first? It's all confusing to me.

I am a catholic and I won't state any views on anyone's blog. If anyone has a honest answer to my question, I'd like to hear it. Seriously.

It's hard to separate the two when they are connected.

Take care, Tig.

Actually, the separation of church and state simply meant that the government cannot dictate a 'national religion to the exclusion of any and all others.' (Unlike, at the time, England, where the recognized proper national church was whatever the monarch in power at the time declared it to be). At the time, I don't think our forefathers really entertained the idea that there would be any question of whether or not the citizens would believe in God, would call their deity 'God', or what-have-you. It was sort of a given that it the good folks of America would be religious. As for me, I ignore the 'In God We Trust' bit on the money... it's worth about as much to me as the paper it's printed on (which ain't much any more, and it keeps dwindling...)

My favorite recent bumper sticker, which pretty much sums it all up for me, is "Born Okay The First Time."

As for your friends' situation, I do hope they can find something that will work for them. I know that what they want is adoption, but not every state's legislature is open-minded. Couldn't a will, stating who will get custody of the child in the event of his birthmother's death, cover that for them?

Stormy-I can understand...I think the Goverment put the information on the money...Our Flag is our Flag so naturally it will hang in the church's...

Steph...I so agree with you...I don't think our founding fathers knew which direction the world was going to take...

I had to laugh...I actually had no idea that this had posted...I thought I had hit the "Save as Draft" instead of Publish your post...Sorry....But I have had more time to talk to Sam...I can print her name here...

But here's the kicker...My Friends have a will drawn up already...Sam (the natural Mother)put in her will that Lisa (the significat other) is the legal guardian..but wills can be challanged and this one probably would be...the whole gay issue will be brought up...(Even though Lisa will try to keep it out) since there is no father persay...Custody will automatically go to the grandparents (who probably will contest the will)since they are blood relations...That's what infuriates me the most...Sam and Lisa (They have been together for 10 years also) were told by several Attorney's that Lisa really didn't have a chance in hell...The child will be put into foster care (Ward of the state) or automatically placed with the Grandparents until all avenues are exhausted...The other option is to let the child be adopted (This is what Sam told me yesterday I was floored)But can you imagine what that would do to the child???? I don't even want to think about it...I think adoption was mentioned as there were issues with the Grandparents gaining custody...but they could challange the adoption as well...Sam had a heart attack so that's why this is all being made an issue...The attorney's also stated that if Bush get's his constitutional ammendment banning Gay Marriages...it's all down hill from there...So for that sake...I hope he doesn't...If we can ever get all the states to sanctify gay marriages...it will open the door for everything else...It's a fight...but it's one worth fighting...But it's going to be a very uphill battle...I think it's discrimination pure and simple...

Tig, for what it's worth, I'm with you in this. I have no problem with people's religious beliefs, so long as they don't cram them down other's throats. And that is ( JMHO mind) what this is. I have several gay friends, and they are more than capable of giving/having a good, nuturing household for a child. Not that that is easy here where we live. They don't "choose" to be gay- they just ARE. And they are also human beings, with feelings, hopes and desires just like the rest of us.

Thanks Guys....I had really expected some negativity on this issue...All I recieved was one not so nice email from someone who apparently found my blog...(I actually thought to myself "I have stalkers! YIPEE-Seen that on Envy's site-totally love it!) I have no clue who this person is...nor do I care...

For what it's worth...Sam and Lisa are wondeful parents...Their relationship is just like anyone's...I am glad that the community they live in also supports them...they have wonderful neighbors...It just scared the crap out of them when Sam had the heart attack...She's only 34...that's really young...and she's made all the changes the Doc's have suggested and she's monitored all the time...But this whole thing brought to light something they really never thought of and didn't think they had too...(That's the way it usually goes) Then it was all the attitudes they were confronted with...I just couldn't believe it...it totally pissed me off to no end...

Thank you for being so eloquent. My brother is gay and has been with the same, wonderful man for over 20yrs now. They wanted to adopt a child but found out that the legal morass out there made it impossible.

I always thought that the states were founded originally to allow for freedom of expression in religious as well as personal choice of life. Goes to show that my rose tinted goggles didn't work, huh?
